When you experience success, what do you do? Do you ignore these wins, automatically working toward the next goal without an acknowledgment of what has been achieved? Do you share a quick “congratulations” or “good job” and then head back into your office? It’s all too easy to place an immediate focus on your next task at hand and forget to stop and reflect on what’s been achieved. In this episode, Dustin R. Granger, CFP® and I share 3 reasons to celebrate the wins more often, even if they seem small and insignificant. These by-products of celebration will help you stay motivated, focused and energized!

When you celebrate the wins throughout your day, you are essentially wrapping a bow around the things you have finished. It’s done, complete, you can move on! Before tackling the next thing on your list, take a moment and reward yourself for a job well-done! Just because the task may have been a small one, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth celebrating. For me, sometimes that celebration is as simple as grabbing a latte or taking a short break from work. Dustin heads for the espresso machine in our office after working all morning with clients. You can almost sense his energy levels rising as that coffee break gets closer. It’s a form of celebration, and it helps him stay motivated!
There are times when the wins are significant and should be celebrated accordingly. Maybe you hit a sales goal, launched a new product started a new company…all of these deserve a celebration! For me, celebrating the large wins might mean a mani/pedi or a special dinner with family. Your traditions may vary, but the fact remains: celebrating the wins is healthy and has several positive benefits.
It feels good to be recognized for our accomplishments, right? Of course it does! The reality is, celebrating the wins that you have accomplished makes you feel good about yourself, right down to your brain chemistry. Positive reinforcement produces endorphins in the brain that can give you a boost of energy, so celebrate the things you have accomplished, and watch the effects it has on the rest of your day!

Usually, when you start a large project, it can seem complicated or overwhelming at times. However, when the project is complete, it usually doesn’t seem as hard, right? Celebrating the wins has a unique way of clarifying things. It simplifies what was actually needed. This is a great way to identify the key performance indicators that are needed for the next task. It’s a great idea to communicate these wins in public, with your whole team.
You know that hyper-productive feeling you have right before you go on vacation? In your mind, you are already celebrating your hard work, to so you work harder to get to the vacation faster. This is because celebration brings momentum. As you are reminded of the things you are doing well, your confidence soars! This by-product of celebration has tremendous effects on your health and productivity, and that’s a win. Now it’s time to celebrate!
